Bio
Erick LaBanca developed a strong love for house and techno since the age of fifteen. He started out working at Satellite Records in NYC and began his career at the age of eighteen DJing at some some of New York City’s best venues including Vinyl, Life, Carbon, Shelter, Tunnel, Midway, Jet Lounge, Lunatarium, Shine (Touch parties), Novacento (w/ Dave Hollands), Plant Bar, Open Air, Boogaloo, The Brooklyn Loft, and his last residency in New York City, The Sullivan Room.
During his time in New York, Erick shared the decks with some of the world’s best DJs such as Timo Maas, Pete Bones, Randall Jones, Dave Ralph, Hybrid, Dave Hollands, Max Graham, Eddie Richards, Terry Mullan, DJ Feelgood, Bassbin Twins, Eddie Baez, Starecase, Melvin Moore, and DJ Disciple, amongst others. From New York to Los Angeles, Erick continues to bring his unique style to clubs on the West Coast as he has done for the East Coast.
His style and sound focus on hard-hitting basslines, sturdy and well-defined rhythms with melodies and chord progressions that venture into worlds of the deep, moody, brooding, bright, uplifting, energetic, retro, and nostalgic.
While spinning, Erick has the ability to take you on a journey from uplifting and melodic house to hard and dirty electro and techno. He injects chunky, minimal-techno sounds to get the groove going late into the night, and comes full circle to beautiful deep house music. To keep up with the latest trends in electronica, Erick always keeps his ears and his mind open to different styles of music to use for his DJ sets and to influence his productions. With this inclusive attitude towards music, Erick aspires to find similarities between all the music that he loves and then attempts to string a common thread between them.
This February 2010 marked Erick’s debut as a producer with the Gypsy EP released by Zero Digital, a San Diego based record label. “Gypsy” is sort of rock progressive house fusion while “Operation Love” is a fusion between tech house, electro, and progressive house. Keep an eye out for future releases and for upcoming shows to be announced soon.
